Your data and your choices
Privacy policy
Effective 3 October 2026. This policy covers Engram with hosted cloud disabled.
Engram is developed by Akshat Porwal. For privacy questions or requests, email akshatporwalwork@gmail.com.
Your study library
Engram stores your cards, decks, notes, imported documents and media, review progress, answer attempts and saved assistant conversations on your device. Core flashcard study does not require an account. The current configuration does not upload your library to an Engram cloud service.
Files you import are read to provide the features you choose. Backups and exports contain study data and are saved to a location you select. Copies placed in cloud storage, shared with others or included in operating-system backups are subject to those services and your settings.
Optional AI features
When you connect an eligible ChatGPT account and use AI features, Engram sends requests directly to OpenAI. These may contain your message, answer text, relevant cards and notes, selected document passages, conversation context and information retrieved by assistant tools to carry out your request. This content can contain personal information you enter.
OpenAI also receives authentication and network information needed to provide its service. Engram stores connection credentials in device Keychain storage. You can disconnect the account and manage authorisation through ChatGPT settings. Core study remains available without AI.
Engram requests that OpenAI not store Responses as reusable response objects. This setting does not guarantee that the provider keeps no logs or retains no information. OpenAI processing and retention depend on the service and account settings. See OpenAI’s privacy policy. Avoid sending confidential material or another person’s personal information unless you have permission.
Microphone and local voice
Voice mode asks for microphone permission. Voice mode processes raw audio on your device for speech recognition and playback; raw microphone audio is not sent to OpenAI. Recognised answer text may be sent for optional AI assessment. Written answers, assessment results and saved conversations may remain in the local study library.
Voice setup downloads model files from third-party hosting services. Those services receive the network information necessary to deliver the files. You can stop voice mode and revoke microphone permission in your device’s settings.
Photos and exports
When you choose to save screenshots to Photos, Engram requests permission to add them to your photo library. Exported screenshots and backups may contain private study information. You decide whether to share these files.
Advertising and tracking
Engram does not include advertising or analytics integrations. This website includes no analytics scripts, external fonts or advertising. Vercel hosts this website and processes network and request information, such as IP addresses and device information, to deliver, operate and secure its services. Hosting information may be processed internationally and retained under applicable service policies. See the Vercel privacy notice.
Support messages
If you email support, the developer receives your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send. This information is used to respond and investigate the issue. Do not attach credentials or a full study backup unless specifically needed and agreed. Support messages are kept while needed to resolve the request and meet applicable obligations; you can request deletion by email.
Retention and removal
Your local library and saved history remain until removed through available app controls or device storage management. Deleted items may still exist in exported files, recovery backups or operating-system backups. Remove those copies separately if you want to remove the information completely. Disconnecting an AI account does not delete saved study data or information already processed by OpenAI.
You may ask for access, correction or deletion of information held by the developer by emailing the address above. For data held solely on your device, the developer cannot remotely inspect or remove it. Provider-held information is handled through that provider’s controls and request process.
Cloud accounts
Hosted Engram accounts, cloud sync and collaboration are not available in the current configuration. If these are introduced, this policy will be updated to explain the providers, shared information, retention and account-deletion controls.
Changes
This policy will be updated when release features or data handling change. The effective date above identifies the current policy. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to akshatporwalwork@gmail.com.
